The emotions that birth parents feel are ones that others may not understand. Having intense feelings of grief and loss are not uncommon. Finding a safe place to express yourself and finding support can help you begin the healing process. It is crucial to know that you are not alone. Support groups and resources are available to those who have placed their child for adoption.
St. Mary’s works in partnership with other organizations and support groups to provide birth mothers the support they need. In addition to these groups, our maternity counselors are available for counseling to those birth parents who have placed through St. Mary’s. Our agency offers lifelong counseling to birth parents, whether they placed today or 30 years ago.
One way to find support, is to reach out to us to get a list of resources and support groups in the area. Your maternity counselor can help connect you with support groups and organizations that might be able to help financially and/or support you mentally and emotionally. There are also numerous books, counseling options, and phone numbers that your maternity counselor can provide to help you through this difficult time.
On Your Feet Foundation provides birth parents monetary support and case management services in order to help birth parents get on their feet. They also offer an online support group, retreats for birth moms as well as other support throughout the state of Illinois. This great organization is a nonprofit that’s mission is to help birth parents.
St. Mary’s partners with and supports other organizations that provide support to birth parents and birth mothers. A new birth mother support group in Chicago is being formed that will create a supportive community for birth moms. The group is held on the first Saturday of every month from 10 AM to 12 PM. It is located at 5828 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60660.
